Hello Love!
hi! what up kangaroo? how you feelin'? the other day we played a ski resort near allentown, PA. such an odd show! it was so much fun though to play to all y'all. and my favorite part of the day was getting to chill with a bunch of you guys outside the merch tent before the show. i think we must have been hanging out for like two hours, so that's cool. it's nice to know we have smart fans who care about the world around them. of course, i already knew that since we've been corresponding through the emails, but it's always nice to be face to face with you guys and remember how wonderful our fans are. so thank you! i also passed around my iPod and played our newest demo "Daybreak" for ten or eleven of you guys and you all had wide eyes and seemed excited after listening to the 11 minute epic. (in fact, it took the whole two hours to pass the iPod around to everyone standing there... epic is an understatement!) so thanks for listening and i'm stoked you liked the experimental tune-age. werd.
also, i was walking around today and noticed a bunch of mccain palin signs around my town. last week when i noticed them popping up, i was angry and judgmental, thinking "why do these people support such negative politicians and their positions? why can't we all get along? blah blah blah." and then i realized in my judgment of them, i was in fact no better. alas.... upon my walk this morning my anger had transformed into sadness. sadness stemming from a world that is currently so cold. honestly, why CAN'T we get along? or i guess the question is, why DON'T we get along? why are we pitted against each other, sizing each other up and cutting each other down? why? what is it about this life? i realize that my hope for a kinder future world is born out of my inability to accept how the world truly is right now. it's an awful, mean place. it's a truly beautiful place as well. so there is a mixture of strange feelings. what is this? why ARE we the way we are?
could it be that the system of this world, which is not RATIONALLY structured to take care of human needs, is causing a sickness inside of us due to our competition in the struggle for resources? let me ask this... can we share? is this system of society logical? does it make SENSE (cents!) that we need MONEY to pay for our basic NEEDS, such as food and shelter? why do have money? if people were to volunteer their labor out of passion and consideration for fellow humanity, would we even need money??? again, can we share? can we value each other? can we love? unfortunately i have to run, and this thought is unfinished, but i wanted to share my feelings with you and see how you guys feel. how does it feel to you to be alive in this strange beautiful scary cold world? i feel both blessed and terrified. and i know, i know that i love you. and i might sound "naive," but i simply love this world. i love all of us. every last one. we ARE waking up. we WILL realize our gift of Life. and i love you endlessly and beyond.
love, chris

Once you've opened your eyes, you can only shut them to sleep; to imagine a better world. Maybe that's what makes art. Because you "feel everything much more" because you were fortunate to have someone open your eyes, [or give you the Celestine Prophecy (and/or The Tenth Insight) great books aye?] Or maybe it correlates with 'sleep apnea,' which never allows you to fully sleep, just moments of steady breath, leaving you lucid all the time, in a constant state of dream awareness. A powerful polarity, whose use is dictated by a dualistic understanding of nature, perpetuated mainly by the Teutonic school method--compartmentalization of studies used to make unquestionable soldiers, and later introduced to make compliant railroad builders, to crush their dreams of heading west with the Gold Rush. Even more devastating and up-to-date is the tyrannical influence upon most public schools. Public Education has become an institute of complacency, and greed for what those in power price as commodities, and then inflates and sells to the American Public. I appreciate your involvement with Invisible Children, and Rocket Town is owned by a great guy, but I have questions about education, and rebuilding schools. St. John's College may be our next step young grasshopper, I'll go with you, and we'll start a band, and start our education all over again. Let’s talk more about how we as musicians can help educate, and what method of instruction nurtures the students’ passion to question instead of smoldering the flame, how can communities bring understanding without government burocratic involvement dumbing everything down and wasting money. Because ‘”the teacher always appears when the student is ready,” but not if the student has no hope…

I never disagreed with the guy, I love his views. But if you guys are going to get mad at people for tossing their two cents on a journal entry that allows commenting, you're just not letting the blog do it's job, kind of counter-productive. Also, you got us all off topic of politics and love and peace by pursuing your own conflicts with peoples opinions. Trying to back Chris up telling people to "stfu" is not, from what I'm getting, what Chris is about.

Look...this is someone's journal entry. I don't think there's a need to fight over political views and beliefs via the fucking internet. That's really not important and a waste of time and the internet is slowly ruining our ability to communicate as people. The ability to express our thoughts and ideas to one another without technology is decaying. All that matters is that you stay strong in what you think and can back it up whether you be a hippie or a marine- don't be a hypocrite. Not saying I'm Jesus here and yes I realize that I, too, am commenting on this but just shut up for the love of God. p.s. Jim...perhaps you should read more than John. Damn Chris, did you ever think you would stir up so much hostility from one journal entry? Calm down people, everyone has the right to there own opinion, why get so worked up over someones point of view? Our opinions that we have, make up who we are, and makes us each different. Thats great b/c if we all thought the same way, we would just seam like robots, walking around thinking the same things, and doing the same things. Having different opinions brings out the best of us(most of the time). We can learn from others by listening to what they have to say, and we can improve upon things by being challenged by others. If we all agreed on everything and acted the same way, then we would have never grown or succeeded in life. We need those people that don't walk the line, those who think outside the box, to give a different perspective on things and to challenge us all once in a while.

That's an interesting notion, actually. What is love? What is freedom? It seems like America is more focused on building a sort of wall around our surplus of wealth and expanding it's empire to ensure a place of influence in the middle east. I like Obama, I really do. Will he fix the economic and moral issues of this country? Of course not. That is not something mommy and daddy can teach, we have to address ourselves in what we truly think freedom is. We are slaves to our desire and if not, then we are slaves to our will to have no desires. It's a circle of emptiness really. The only worth we can get out of our lives is if we choose what we're slaves to. It's like the Universe (or God, if you will for Christians. Allah for Muslims...etc) is the mother baking the cookies and were the small child helping her out. Does she need us? No. But she keeps us here to learn and teach. I wish I could settle the issues of freedom and politics on Chris Conley's journal but I feel that's a bit futile. LOL WUT

I think that no matter who is president, people are going to disagree with what the candidates have to say. Some people like McCain, some like Obama. They're supposed to have differing views, that's what politics is. Unfortunately, I have to agree that greed is a big problem in our country. In America it's easy to think that people can share, but in reality if there wasn't money, people would go after each other for their resources such as food and shelter. As humans develop, the economy and actions of others influences us beyond belief. If things keep going the way they are... eventually money is going to be the biggest problem in the United States, politics won't matter because they won't be able to change anything. Upper class will be the only class, and the rest of us will just be here... fighting to fend for ourselves. So what I wonder is... why can't people come together to keep that from happening? Change is only going to happen if people take action, instead of sitting on their asses saying that they want a difference. They say "Love conquers all"... what is love? The word gets thrown around so much now a days, who really knows what it's like to love? Divorce rates are rising, abortion rates are rising, the economy is spriraling downwards... how can anybody be sure that the love around them is real?

Not that I don't always think the same thing, but I have been doing a lot of research as it is my job (student) to do such things and really neither side of politics is dumb. That's why were so split, we can't see why the other person sees the good in our reasoning. I think the big problem is that we're stuck on two platforms floating in a rapid river towards nothing. We need to get off our asses and head for land to find some new creative ideas for society. It sucks we've only stumbled across a hand full of political giants (capitalism, communism, socialism...etc). We are in for a huge surprise as a nation unless we figure something out. History has proven every great empire to fall short of stabilization. Greed and perversion always seem to click in the minds of whoever holds power. Let's stop building the gates to protect our stuff. Let's fling 'em wide open. Let's keep our political and philosophical beasts on a leash and reform a new sort of system. I've always liked where your heads at. LOL WUT!?

As long as humans grace this earth there will never be total peace and no war. Its happened since the start of man. It may be a good thing to ponder about but come on be real and pull your head out of your ass. I'm just hoping that wasnt directed to my response to Jim... If it was though, heres my response 1. I am not a liberal... I'm probably one of the most conservative people you'll ever meet 2. I'm a marine, so I know I'm not weak as an individual 3. our country is weak due to greed and our leadership... if we took care of the american people and not worried about other countires and catering to the needs of everyone else, our country would be a lot better off... it is due to this and the need for almighty dollar that we are here in the first place. America does not take care of its people, its all about making the rich richer by any means possible. 4. i did not vote for obama... 5. i fully believe in what we are doing militarliy or else i would have signed up to be part of its bigger cause 6. i dislike the people with hippy attitudes that dont support our troops. 7. I total agree with: Isnt it funny we are one of the few countries that lets in outsiders, even people that openly hate us and our way of life, people that want you dead just for you being from the west? Im sorry but If any of us went walking around somewhere in the middle east we would be fucking shot dead and beheaded that being said, I still think Jim was 100% wrong with the way he went about saying what he did, and I do agree with Chris, that money is the root of all evil. Just to clarify for ya

We can share, we can love. We do it best when nobody's forcing us. What's government but one big charity, giving and taking cents for the betterment of our society. But there's no love, and as a result, there's no human will -- only political will. Tell me this, would you rather FEMA or the Red Cross bailed you out of your flooding home? It's amazing to think that dedicated, well-paid government employees couldn't do the work that volunteers did. I think your experience with the signs illustrates what we all know to be true -- that we all know what's best for ourselves. And it can be frustrating/depressing when others have a different opinion on what's good for you. That's the problem with our big ole social contract... people disagree on anything and everything. It's especially problematic when our combined cents are at hand. You might not remember, but you gave me the same rant about money in Reno (of all places?). It's a really thoughtful point, but I still disagree... Charity is a great thing, it's service and love and all those things. Money lets me convert whatever work I'm doing and allocate it however my heart/brain wants... to spread the love if I want to. Because if I don't have the time to help bail someone out of their home, I can make a contribution to someone who can. Money lets us share more efficiently, it lets us be certain of the future. It lets me borrow against future earnings to I can go to school. Disagreements happen, but money lets me retain some choice. (How much I should get is a whole different ball game.) And most importantly, here's what I'm most worried about. This being America and all, if I have to rely on others for food (I'm busy being a good student remember?), who's to say the only food we'd have is bacon double cheeseburgers and pizza? Oh majority rule... Rambling ends here. Now let's all get along. I need to hear this song!

I watched it today and it's weird that your questions coincide with the topic of which i have just watched. It's all greed. Money has washed our morals away, and we sit here and wonder today, where is the love, why can't we just all get along? Glory to jesus. keep rockin saves the day. best band, especially live.

Ok Jim the jerkoff... it's one thing to have a viewpoint and to make your point and its another to be a total asshole about something. You being the latter... It's not hypocritical having to sell cds to get by in life... chris was merely stating that life was better before the almighty dollar ruined people's values and morals (apparently you have neither). And what chris was tlaking about is the truth... apparently you have none, b/c "Greed is Good" in your eyes. The points you are trying to make just make you sound undeducated and like a total dickhead... if you dont like what chris writes about, then get the fuck off his site, or maybe try having a little class you fucking douchebag. by the way. we do need money. it's not some made up thing. it's how the world works. What do you think would happen if everything were free? seriously. we'd have an apathetic useless group of human beings. People get jobs and word hard to get ahead in life. So riddle me this everyone, why do you want to eliminate money. Greed? Are all people really greedy, -eh the majority probably yes. But who cares, it drives the worlds economy. Greed is good. I know i'm probably going to get crucified all over this comment board but whatever. I don't really care. I just wanted to produce the other side in a more coherent way. I often ponder similarly Chris. Honestly I think money is bullshit…somebody or some bodies made it up out of greed. Greed is something basic that is in all of us…it’s very animalistic. Some animals don’t like to share, but some do. As humans, the higher life form, we should know better. The thing is greed and status is perpetual. It’s hard to turn back from it. Like I said before we never needed money. People used to barter or share within their communities. We used to work together, but money and the way our society is today makes us compete. Our society doesn’t teach us to be kind to each other, but rather to be numb, dumb and blind by using media to control and scare us. Politics is a silly game. We think we have a say, but we don’t. I think it’s important to find or make your own community. A community that can grow and sustain it’s self within the confines of society.

hello! i'm super glad that you guys had a nice time playing the ski resort. i would have been there but had a wedding to attend many miles away from home in pa. it was such a chilly weekend. brrr. i used to think about politics and get so angry. then i realized how pointless it really was. like most times i've gotten angry about things that happen in this world that are out of my reach... most of the time. sometimes i believe just blurring them from your thoughts is the best route unless you want your body, mind and soul to explode like a shaken bottle of soda. the world really does depress me but at the same time astounds me. more so the latter. after a while, with most jobs, you see how selfish people really are. i work in a bakery decorating cakes and foods. people are so, so demanding and they want this and that and are truly mean. sometimes i look around and wonder why so many people ignore what i'm seeing. and as i'm seeing it and standing still basking in this new wonder of dejavu, i feel as if they are staring at me like i'm the odd one. i was sent this story not too long ago from a friend. **One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family. On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, 'How was the trip?' 'It was great, Dad.' 'Did you see how poor people live?' the father asked. 'Oh yeah,' said the son. 'So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?' asked the father. The son answered: I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them.' The boy's father was speechless. Then his son added, 'Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are.' Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have. Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends! 'Life is too short and friends are too few'** sorry it's so long, just wanted to share. i feel this is a good time to end this. much love, rose <3
