Answered Questions:
“It would be awesome if you released an instrumental version of the song daybreak, any chance of this ever happening?”
We were doing tripped-out reggae versions of “Daybreak” in some soundchecks. “Dub-break”. Look for it.
“Undress Me sounds like a Weezer build-up at the end. its totally your own and you did it mighty well. is that a song you plan to play often?”
We admit, we were thinking of the way “Only In Dreams” feels when we were recording that part. Yes, we plan on playing that one often. There’s already quite a few YouTube captures of that song.
“Do you like movies about gladiators?”
i like to hang around the gymnasium.
“Mojito?”
top shelf.
“where can i get an mp3 copy of the live version of baby please come home that you guys played at sayreville, nj?? that was so sick!!!”
Thanks! Unfortunately, we’ve never recorded it. Not even a board mix. We learned it as a special thing for thisisfakediy.co.uk and decided to play it full electric at Starland NJ three soundchecks before the show. There’s a few good youtube versions floating around and beyond that, memories. Maybe next Christmas?
“Do you want to go do karate in the garage?”
Yessir.
“im hugely influenced by your music in my band. without realizing it i wrote a riff that sounds similar to the intro of 1984. are you mad???”
Nope. Flattered.
“what is a good question to ask you , what do you want me to know about you. Tell me what I want to hear”
My favorite non-specific questions are from the Proust Questionnaire.
“There was a latent question, floating around somewhere in those deeper recesses of my mind, that I just didn't wanna ASK (so soon after Daybreak's brilliant release, that is), but Rodrigo answered it”
Cool, glad to help!
“I'm a long-time fan and I saw you again this past summer in Pittsburgh. While it was an awesome show, I was a little disappointed you didn't play any of my favorites from Can't Slow Down or Through Being Cool; are you done playing songs from those albums for good?”
i’m pretty sure we played at least 4-5 songs off through being cool and 1-2 off can’t slow down on that tour, so i’m not sure what you mean. we played 90 minutes on the get up kids tour, and have to fit in a mix of over a 100 songs spanning 7 records. i’m sure there will always be a song or two that we don’t play that you want to hear. but let us know what those songs are and we’ll see about possibly playing them next time.
“Didn't you guys record a daytrotter session?”
we did! and you can listen to it on the daytrotter site!
“I just saw you at the State Theatre but before the show I saw Chris and Arun walk through the crowd and I thought I'd be cool to say hi. But I was across the room, and somehow no one else saw you. How can half the headliner walk around with no one noticing? And then when I had almost caught up with you you rounded the corner for the lobby, and vanished like a ninja! There was hardly anyone there, how did you manage to wade through your fans unseen and then vanish?”
we’re quite spry.
“Chris, or Arun:65 RI Twin, Or Vox AC30? I'd like your personal preference, and why :) w/bbai.”
i personally like twins or super reverbs. chris like ac-30′s or amps similar. it’s all about preference. i also like ac-30′s (i used one on a bunch of my daybreak guitar tracks.) it really depends on how you play. both are easy to find in stores, i’d suggest plugging into both and seeing what suits you.
“I might finally be seeing you guys for the first time when you come to starland ballroom in december and I am ridiculously excited.I love all your music and think its all amazing. Are you as excited as I am.”
We are more excited than you. This is a challenge.
“I want to get beat up by some cool kid in a band, what do I have to do”
You’re posing an oxymoron; a guy in a cool band that is willing to fight you outright is not cool, and therefore, not in a cool band. We won’t fight you.
I might however, challenge you to a friendly arm-wrestling. Winner gets hugs.
“Hey guys, I've been listening to Daybreak a lot, but it just now hit me that Z "steals" from Under the Boards (the song) for it's guitar at the beginning. I was already familiar with the Shattered reference in 1984. How many of these little easter eggs are hiding in Daybreak? Are they in every track and I'm just not seeing it? ”
There are more Easter eggs. Some are musical, others lyrical. Good luck.
“so we know 1984 shares parts from "shattered" but does anyone else notice "zig zag" shares rhythm parts from "dillusional" am i the only one who hear it?”
“…”
“How many different snares did Spencer use on Daybreak?”
Lots.
“Daybreak has fully set in for me, and Rodrigo, holy crap. Your bass work is incredible. I was a huge fan of Eben and Manny...but dare I say you are the best STD bassist yet?”
Thanks SO MUCH Dan! They left big shoes to fill, and i’m constantly challenged by what they brought to the songs. The next record, with Claudio and I as unit, will be off the chain.
“New found Glory has saves songs playing in the background before they hit the stage in NYC last night. I was very excited.”
We keep hearing about this! NFG are our bros, they’re awesome human beings. Also, their TM/soundgrrl, Jenny, is cool as fuck and was out with us earlier this year when we toured with The Get up Kids. Both these things might have something to do with this. I hope you’ve picked up Radio Surgery. Highly recommended.
