Answered Questions:
“do you guys like elliott smith? if so, what does he mean to you?by the way, thank you guys for composing all my feelings that i could never play.”
We have a deep respect and love for Elliott Smith. He was a brilliant, fantastic, wee little elf. His cover of “Thirteen” was my personal gate to Big Star. He is definitely a songwriter and musician that we draw inspiration from.
“What are each member's drink of choice?”
I like stouts, Belgian beers, whiskey neat, water; Chris enjoys Guinness, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, and top-shelf margs; Arun likes many beer varieties, top-shelf margs, Patron, most things high ABV; Claudio drinks water, blood, very thick water.
“favorite lifetime song?”

“Why was the web site down for 3 days?”
we suspect a problem with the host, but we’re just glad it’s back up!
“Hey guys! I got a soundcheck pass when I preordered Daybreak, but most of the dates I've seen for you since them have been outside the US. Is there any plan to do a full US tour before the end of 2012, or to extend the life of the soundcheck pass? Thanks!”
not sure when our next US run will be, but email maura@fenwayrecordings.com and we will make sure to honor the pass for a future show.
“Have you played "E" live yet?”
not yet, although we are all dying to play it. we work on it at sound checks when we can. i’m sure it’ll find it’s way into the setlist soon enough.
“What is the neatest thing of all time.”
probably this. http://htwins.net/scale2/scale2.swf?bordercolor=white
“I met Kevin Devine, and the dude had nothing but great things to say about you guys when I brought up how much of a inspiration you are to my band. He mentioned your mutual interest in Elliot Smith, someone I had literally never heard before meeting Kevin. Any advice on what Elliot Smith album is appropriate to listen to first? Thanks dudes.BY THE WAY!! The new lineup is one of the BEST things that has ever happened in my opinion. the guitar tone of Daybreak is ON POINT!”
kevin is a sweet, sweet man and a fantastic songwriter. if you’ve never listened to elliott smith, i recommend starting with XO. after that, i’d just start picking up all of his releases as they are all different and beautiful in their own way.
“I'm a rangers fan and I've been feeling somewhat slighted with everyone picking the Penguins to represent the East in the Finals this year. After their blowing of a 3 goal lead do you think they're still the favorite? Who's your favorite in the East this year? The West? P.S. Chris I saw you at Where's the Band in NYC and you rocked. Kinda felt bad with everyone shouting songs at you like you were a jukebox or something but you played a great set. People were really fucking rude to Matt Pryor though(talking through his set) and I thought that really sucked. If you could just tell him that this New Yorker apologizes for all those rude a-holes the next time you see him I'd appreciate it. Rock on guys”
who picked the penguins? certainly nobody here. the penguins will very likely lose this series after the insane meltdown that has happened to them. that last game was like watching hockey in the 80′s! i like the rangers chances of winning the east, but feel like the it’ll be a western conference team hoisting the cup this year.
“do you think you guys could ever come to Nashville or somewhere close and play? i have never seen you guys play as i am only 15 but i have listened for about four years now and it would be the best moment of my life to see you play.”
we haven’t played nashville since ’09 (with alkaline trio) so we are long overdue. i’m moving to nashville in june, so i couldn’t agree with you more. hopefully we can make that work soon.
“have any of you guys ever met the members of THE DESCENDENTS?”
we met them in berlin when we played a fest together, and had an amazing hang with them. they are the sweetest dudes ever, which meant a lot to us cause we are huge fans.
“you guys have any planed for record store day?”
i love record store day. i don’t think we’ll have anything ready for this year, but we’ve talked about different ideas to participate in the future!
“What do you think of Jersey Shore?”
i try not to think of jersey shore.
“Hi Chris and the guys. I don't know if you'll remember us but we came as a family with my mum to see you at Camden London last summer. We met you afterwards and mum was starstruck! You also talked about a letter you had received (chris) from a 'man' who likened you to the grateful dead! My mum actually wrote that letter but she was too embarrassed to admit it when you met. Shortly after that show she was diagnosed with terminal cancer and she doesnt have so long to live - I thought it would be great if you could write her a letter or just let her know you remember. She loves your music so much and at 56 has seen a lot of music in her time. I'm sure youre very busy and I don't even know if youll get this but if you do my email is below. For her to get a response would mean a lot to all of us. Thank you Chris from Sara (England!)”
i totally remember this. we bring up the “grateful dead letter” from time to time. it’s funny that your mom actually wrote that! it was very nice meeting you, and tell your mom hello for us.
“will you ever to come to brasil? i just love you so much......... (:”
we would love to come to south america in general! hoping we can make it happen soon.
“The one thing I love about Saves the Day is your simplicity when it comes to album covers. In your history, what was each member's all time favorite album cover.”
Stay What You Are is definitely classic. For DAYBREAK Chris and I worked really closely with Troy to put something together that captured that spirit but also felt fresh.
“Braid or Hey Mercedes? Damon Atkinson is a kickass drummer. i was fortunate enough to see the tour he did with you guys back in the day. fight club question: if you could fight anyone who would you fight”
Love Damon’s playing. My first serious band played a lot of shows with Braid, so i’m biased… there’s a lot of transcendent Braid shows in my memory. Prolific band. Still have a lot of Braid 7″s in my collection. Claudio might have something to add here…
“catch any good televsion or movies in your downtime lately?”
We got into “Breaking Bad” recently. For myself, “Downton Abbey” is one of the most beautifully filmed/scored/written series I’ve seen. The GOP nomination process is also my favorite tragicomedy.
“We named our 2 year old son after Chris...his name is Conley. We are considering having another, but what do we name him/her? Bali? Rivera? Palma probably doesn't make the cut...”
Rodrigo is a great name, for a boy or a girl.
“do you guys like Green Day and/or blink-182? if so, favorite albums? if no, any bands that you think are really inspirational?”
i, personally, love green day (they are the reason i started playing drums!), but i’m not sure that i could pick a favorite album. their older stuff had such great pop melodies and simple arrangements–pretty much the essence of pop punk. but, their songwriting definitely evolved, and i think “american idiot” is a really awesome album. by default, just because it was my first album of theirs, i gotta go with “dookie”.
blink 182 are great, although i got in late with them (well, later yet, seeing as plenty of people knew green day before dookie). i actually only found out about them, because i heard that the drummer of the aquabats had joined. haha. “take off your pants and jacket” is probably my favorite album of theirs. but, as with green day, it’s hard to pick a favorite.
